Has a working knowledge of procedures and theories in areas of responsibility. Prepares and stains specimens of human body tissue according to established procedures so that specific cell structure detail or substances will be visible for evaluation by a Pathologist to aid in determining the morphology of tissues and organs and the cause and progress of disease. Prepares solutions, performs special mountings and stains, and performs related service duties.
1. Requires an advanced level of knowledge generally acquired through completion of a four college science degree and one-year of on-the-job training in a clinical setting, or a two year histology technician training program at a certified school with passage of the Histologic Technician Board of Registry of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists. Certification, HT, preferred through an accredited certifying agency (ASCP). 2. Requires knowledge of department policies, procedures, and work routines generally acquired during 6 months to one year of on-the-job training. 3. Require: computer skills to include word processing and spread sheets using Microsoft Word and Excel. 4 Requires analytical ability necessary to follow established procedures and methods when preparing slides for examination. 5 Requires interpersonal skills necessary to maintain a cooperative working relationship within the department personnel. 6 Requires manual dexterity to work with small instruments and equipment. 7 As a condition for continued employment, all laboratory employees are required to certify annually that they have read and agree to comply with the current version of the Laboratory Corporate Responsibility Program, as evidenced by successful completion of a Bon Secours Laboratory Compliance Training Post Test.
