The Laboratory Director oversees duties as follows
Assuring laboratory is CLIA compliant, this involves the policy and procedure manual being up to date, special stains procedure manual compliant, MSDS compliant, bio-hazard chemical disposal compliant, bio-hazard compliant, bio-hazard chemical storage compliant, special stains procedure manual compliant
Assuring Monthly Quality Assurance Documentation and Quality Control is compliant
Assuring Laboratory Efficiency testing registered and compliant
Assuring Pathologist Efficiency testing registered and compliant
Assuring Pathology online Education programs are registered
Assuring Monthly Quality Assurance documentation and reports are done and reviewed with the Office Manager and any issues that need to be addressed are documented and follow through with documentation is done
Assuring laboratory equipment is running smoothly and if in need of repairs immediate action is taken.
Assuring equipment maintenance is scheduled and done.
Available at all times to be contacted should issues arise
Assist Pathologist with online education programs
Assuring adequate training of histotechnicians and lab assistants are up to date and scheduling conferences and education meetings with the Laboratory Team.
Assuring all laboratory personnel is up to date with policy procedure manual, and staining procedure manual.
Ability to address laboratory issues with Pathologist and Office Manager
Scheduling Laboratory Team Meetings
Other laboratory duties
Ability to layout slides and verify the slides to the block and then to patients charts before delivering to pathologist.
Ability to do all procedures in the lab: Accessioning, block printing and verification of documentation to block, grossing, embedding, trimming, sectioning, staining, special staining, trouble shooting, and training.
Mohs: documentation, slide printing, sectioning, staining, trouble shooting, and training
Making sure all contact numbers regarding the lab are available and easily accessible
Documenting QA on equipment
Maintenance on equipment and knowledge of how to trouble shoot mechanical issues
Other duties as assigned by Pathologist
Manages daily activities and the team to optimize operational processes and meet quality performance standards within the Laboratory service.
Supervises personnel, selects new employees, assures staff are properly trained and meet competencies, identifies training needs, responsible for performance evaluation.
Develops and implements quality control/assurance program, including appropriate proficiency testing and peer review standards.
Responsible for maintaining all required activities and documents to assure compliance with both regulatory and accreditation standards applicable to this laboratory.

Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent experience) from accredited institution and 5 years relevant experience
Diagnostic laboratory exposure with high volume automated specimen handling systems, as part of the qualitative and quantitative analysis of human specimens
Attention to detail, ability to work well under pressure with tight turnaround times, and ability to adapt in a diverse, team-based culture
HT/HTL (ASCP) certification
