Responsible for the paraffin processing, sectioning, staining, and training operations of the histological laboratory in the Department of Orthopaedic's Research Lab. This is a core laboratory that operates as part of the Medical School Cores Facilities.
Be available to provide input to development of histological procedures.
Train investigators in the use of these techniques following safe laboratory practices and will provide training in histological techniques and equipment use to new employees and students.
Oversee and perform laboratory maintenance and calibration, maintain solutions, laboratory cleanliness, and waste chemical management.
Assist outside collaborators with projects and training of equipment.
In addition, this person may assist faculty and graduate students with grant proposals regarding histological techniques, protocols and costs.
May assist investigators with certain components of progress reports and manuscripts.
Work with the Histology Manager for the department.
Basic microscopy and anatomy skills are required. It is expected this candidate will have very good organization skills and will work independently. Excellent communication skills and the ability to multi-task are required. BA or BS in recognized field of science related to the position supplemented by 3-4 years of research, hospital or industry experience relevant to the position.
