A Bachelor's degree in the biological or physical sciences or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired is necessary. 

Depending on the laboratory, a bachelor’s degree in medical technology or registration as a Medical Technologist by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists or an equivalent accreditation group (AMT, NCA, ASCP, HEW/HHS) may be required to meet accreditation requirements.  Where no specific requirement exists, one additional year of technical experience will be added to experience requirement.

Four years of technical experience in specified area in a hospital or similar laboratory setting is necessary. 

Supervisory experience is preferred.
