This position requires an individual who will be able to work independently with minimal supervision to perform various histology sample processing and imaging techniques in support of Manstein Lab research. The lab conducts human clinical studies and uses several animal models (mouse, rat, rabbit, pig, etc.), imaging techniques, histology techniques, and uses/develops lasers and other energy-based devices to study tissue response to various procedures, changes in cellular metabolism and/or immune response after various interventions. This position offers opportunities to learn AI analysis techniques (e.g. with HALO AI software) and molecular biology/gene expression analysis if candidate is interested.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
The Research Technologist will support various research projects as a hands-on member of the project team under the day-to-day supervision of a senior lab member.
Learn sample processing procedures quickly and be able to demonstrate competence in requested tasks.
Prepares lab reagents, chemicals, instruments and equipment for histology and immunohistochemistry processing as needed.
Perform tissue preparation for histology (frozen section, paraffin embedding, etc.) and immunohistochemistry, as well as the staining (e.g. H&E, NBTC and others), photography and data archiving of samples.
Document sample processing procedures, data and results in LabArchives electronic lab notebook.
Contributes to scientific literature, reports, journals and presentations.
Assists with organizing materials for publication or presentation.
Performs independent literature searches and presents results.
Observes and practices laboratory safety standards.
Maintains and orders supplies, as needed for experiments.
Assists PI with determining the most suitable methodology for sample processing
Prepares and presents reports.
Organizes and/or drafts material for the preparation of research papers, manuscripts or other documents for publication and/or presentation
May provide hands-on assistance with animal research studies if needed
