To perform the job of Histology Technician successfully, the individual is required to perform, but not limited to: the preparation of quality tissue samples for histopathologic evaluation; identification of tissue samples for proper embedding orientation; microtomy skills; performance routine hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) staining procedures; knowledge of the use and maintenance of equipment used for the preparation of tissue samples and the ability to maintain a clean and orderly laboratory environment.
Maintains and documents the use and maintenance of laboratory equipment
Maintains a safe, clean and orderly laboratory environment
Performs paraffin tissue processing
Identifies required tissue sample orientation and performs paraffin embedding procedures
Uses microtomy skills in the preparation of routine (paraffin embedded) microscopic slides according to standard operating procedures and/or required by study protocols
Performs routine hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) staining as well as cover slipping microscopic slides
Troubleshoots equipment and/or operation failures and takes appropriate actions to keep interruptions to a minimum
Analyzes raw data collection and solves for deviation in standard operating procedures (SOP) and/or protocol requirements
Disposition of hazardous chemical, generation of the hazardous chemical lab pack and data entry to the laboratory hazardous chemical records
Ordering of warehouse supplies and data entry to laboratory inventory records may be assigned
Work experience includes, but not limited to at least 1+ years laboratory experience and/or training HT (ASCP) eligible within one year of employment. We are hiring all levels of histology technicians based upon their experience and certifications.
Identification of tissue organs and/or tissue samples; microtomy skills and routine hematoxylin and eosin staining preferred Handles and disposes biological and/or chemical substances and wastes in accordance with applicable policies and procedures
Wears appropriate PPE in accordance with policies and procedures. PPE may include, but is not limited to: N-95 respirator, face mask, safety glasses, goggles, face shield, gloves, and lab coat
