Histology Tech I Full Time Days Postion Summary
Performs various tasks required for receiving, processing, and preparing patient tissue specimens for microscopic examination and analysis by the Pathologist. Performs more complex techniques such as enzyme chemistry and immuno histo chemistry.
Prepares microscopic tissue slides for diagnostic/research purposes; performs tissue stains to assist in diagnosis; handles specimen accessioning; maintains laboratory and equipment. Reviews quality control, performs operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of histology instruments and equipment. Will provide supervision and technical direction to Histology Technician, as requested.
Knowledge of the human anatomy
Knowledge of histology/cytology staining procedures
Knowledge of immunohistochemistry, instrumentation, special stains, immunofluorescence, microtomy, and Histology/cytology staining procedures
Ability to use a Cryostat
Ability to use computers (i.e. Microsoft Office, LIS systems)
THE HISTOLOGY TECH I FULL TIME DAYS CANDIDATE WILL POSSESS THE FOLLOWING EDUCATION, LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS, AND EXPERIENCE.
Required: Bachelor's or Associates degree or completion of training in an NCCLS-approved Histology Technician program
Preferred: 1 year of experience as Histotechnologist preferred.
Required: Histotechnologist certification through ASCP (or equivalent) preferred.
