We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Senior Research Technician.
The Center for Biospecimen Research and Development (CBRD) Histology and Immunohistochemistry Laboratory is a centralized resource, launched in 2018, performing all research based histological processing, microtomy, histochemical, immunohistochemical, in-situ and imaging of tissue biospecimens in support of investigator driven basic and clinical biomedical research projects. The CBRDs research personnel work closely with investigators to develop techniques that will fulfill the research needs.
The Senior Research Technician works closely with senior laboratory personnel to coordinate histologic processing of human tissues. Technicians utilize standard operating procedures that ensure accurate and reproducible sample processing, histologic assay/testing, data collection, sample management with quality assurance according to best practices and regulatory requirements. The candidate should proficient with chromogenic and fluorescent manual and automated immunohistochemical and in situ hybridization mono- and multiplex techniques with a strong ability to troubleshoot. The candidate should have excellent interpersonal communication both through technology and in person and have excellent oral and written communication skills. In addition, good analytical skills to evaluate the importance and urgency of problems and the ability to solve non-routine issues is necessary for this position. Strong organizational skills, as well as patience and steady commitment toward achievement of goals and the ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced setting is essential to this position.
Ensure proper and accurate receipt, labeling, accessioning and tracking of tissue samples
Perform tissue processing, embedding, microtomy for all tissue based sampling modalities
Perform routine and specific histochemical stains
Perform manual and automated immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization including optimization, validation and method development.
Perform Whole Slide Imaging
Ensure accurate and proper documentation of tracking and distribution of all tissue samples thru laboratory databases (ARCOS, iLAB, LIMS, ACCESS, ESM)
Performs routine maintenance and quality assurance of all instruments and procedures
Performs all responsibilities in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures, CAP accreditation, established guidelines, work instructions, using appropriate industry and Good Clinical Practices standards.
Perform other related duties as assigned.

To qualify you must have a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Life Sciences or a related field with three years of experience. Specialization in three or more laboratory procedures is required. A solid foundation in basic lab protocols as well as significant experience in areas such as procedures is essential and required. Possess the knowledge and experience in specific areas such as Biochemistry, Histology, Molecular Biology, Immunology, etc. In lieu of education, at least 10 years of related experience in a lab setting. Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor of Science Degree in Life Sciences (histotechnology preferred) with ASCP BOC HT or HTL certification, ASCP Qualification in Immunohistochemistry and NYS license. At least two years of clinical or research histology laboratory experience.
