Histotechnologist Research
JOB SUMMARY
Prepares tissue specimens for microscopic examination with occasional guidance.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
* Completes daily workload as assigned to include embedding, cutting, and staining tissue specimens.
* Performs and documents routine maintenance; maintains departmental records as assigned.
* Maintains department supplies at acceptable levels.
* The responsibilities listed are a general overview of the position and additional duties may be assigned.
* Plan and coordinate experiments in conjunction with Principal Investigator (PI).
* Understand and follow experimental protocols (may include animal handling, tissue culture, etc.)
* Prepare reagents.
* Assist PI in modifying procedures and techniques.
* Recognize problems and suggest solutions, assist in modifications.
* Provide appropriate written/oral documentation of experiments.
* Assist in the effective operation of the laboratory.
* Recommend improvements to established techniques and/or protocols.
* Maintain personal knowledge of scientific trends through literature reviews, attendance at meetings, conferences and
seminars.
* Coordinate, process, organize and maintain sample repository.

TECHNICAL CAPABILITIES
Be able to: process and embed various organs and samples, cut both paraffin and frozen blocks. Perform various routine and specific stains and IHC on multiple types of samples. Trouble shoot antibody and fixation conditions that may be unique to experiments.

-Possesses sufficient fundamental proficiency to successfully demonstrate the ability to maintain equipment, products, or systems in practical applications of moderate difficulty. Assures that parts inventory is sufficient.
