Job Title: Mohs Histotechnologist
Experience: Associates of Science Degree, minimum.
Prior related experience in Mohs laboratory.
Demonstrated technical proficiency in Mohs tissue handling, embedding, tissue sectioning, fixation, staining, and Mohs mapping techniques.
Ability to troubleshoot stainer, cryostat, and other instruments.
Knowledge of reagent use, storage and safe handling as well as lab standards by OSHA and CLIA.
Licensure/Certification/Registration: Board Certified ASCP Histotechnologist or eligible preferred but not required.
Depending on State location may require Technician/Supervisor State License.
Physical Requirements: Ability to safely handle hazardous materials to which one may be exposed. Manual dexterity required to handle equipment and tissue specimen. Good hand and eye coordination and visual acuity required.
Listed but not limited to: Under the direction of the Mohs Surgeon/Mohs Lab Director
o Opens laboratory for daily operation, checks temperatures, all equipment, machines and documents
o Prepares all solutions, fixatives, and stains, as required
o Receives an organizes incoming tissue specimens and enters into log book
o Properly performs grossing techniques to ink and embed tissue ensuring proper orientation.
o Process tissue for frozen sectioning. Includes rapid freezing, tissue sectioning, slide staining, mounting coverslips and labeling slides.
o Reviews slides and maps for completeness and accuracy before taking anything to the physician
o Reports any lab or slide abnormalities to the Mohs surgeon for review
o Handle daily paperwork for Mohs surgery including : Maintains manual and computerized log book. Performs quality assurance and quality control testing as specified. Reviews and updates regulated manuals annually or as policies and procedures change. Logs in any incoming consultation slides
o Performs daily cleaning and weekly maintenance, calibration and troubleshooting as scheduled and as needed on the cryostat microtome, stainer, and all other instruments. Notifies the Mohs surgeon of all malfunctioning equipment and needed supplies.
o Maintains laboratory procedures according to all standards set forth by OSHA, CLIA and other regulatory agencies.
o Maintains the chemical hygiene plan : All reagents and supplies used in the lab will be documented upon opening and put in use. Appropriately disposes of biohazardous waste.
Salary is commesurate with experience.
