Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center is an independent, nonprofit organization providing adult cancer treatment and groundbreaking research focused on cancer and infectious diseases. Based in Seattle, Fred Hutch is the only National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center in Washington.

The Clinical Histotechnician II is responsible for producing high quality histology work for Fred Hutch patients and clients. A Clinical Histotechnician II position requires close interaction with the Pathology Manager and Pathologists.

Responsibilities

• Receive, accession, and process various specimens according to protocol and in a timely manner.
• Prepare specimens using various methods including paraffin sections, frozen sections, and cytocentrifugation. Section specimens on a microtome.
• Perform various routine and special stain histochemical procedures, Perform Immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization.
• Prepare reagents, maintain laboratory equipment, record data, and file tissue blocks and slides. Assume responsibility for reagent and supply inventories. Order supplies in a timely manner.
• Complete in a timely manner all assigned maintenance duties related to the IHC area and equipment.
• Perform all duties related to on-call work.
• Help with daily planning to handle workload according to available resources
• Participate in orientation and training of students or new lab staff
• Help with SOP revisions
• Be able to answer straightforward questions regarding specimen requirements
• Must function at a high level of ability in all required tasks
• May be assigned special projects

Qualifications

Required:

• Associate Degree.
• Minimum 3 years full time relevant Histology/ Pathology experience
• HT (ASCP) certification
• Sound Judgment
• Work with minimal supervision
• Attention to Detail
• Good Computer Skills
• Effective Communication Skills
• Good Troubleshooting Skills

The hourly pay range for this position is from $29.42 to $44.11 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
