The purpose of a Histotechnologist is to assist in accession and properly process surgical specimens to preserve the tissue morphology and cell structure. Prepare quality representative tissue section on a glass slide for microscopical evaluation and to perform special stains or any immunohistochemical procedures needed for diagnostic purpose. May act as a supervisor designate in the absence of the section manager.
Must possess a high school diploma or GED.
Baccalaureate degree and either one year of experience or successful completion of a NAACLS accredited histotechnology (H.T.L. or H.T.) program.
One year experience in Histology preferred.
Must be able to perform: Routine Histology Technique, Frozen Section Technique and Special Stain Technique.
Certification Requirement: ASCP (preferred) or eligible.
Computer proficiency and technical aptitude
Must be able to read, write, and speak the English language in an understandable manner.
Must be able to work independently and possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
Must possess the ability to effectively communicate and deal tactfully with other personnel, visitors, patients, physicians, customers, and the general public.
Must be flexible, have personal integrity, and the ability to function effectively as a team with other employees.
Must be able to follow written and oral instructions.
Use a microtome to cut paraffin tissue sections.
Performs frozen sections as needed.
Knowledge of Histology technique and skills. Must be able to work as a team.
